Meet the Families

The Forgotten Initiative is excited to introduce you to two women who have committed their lives to caring for children who might otherwise feel forgotten.

Meet Ceola!
Foster Mom:  The Center for Youth and Family Solutions - Peoria, IL

Ceola is a committed and devoted foster mom. She has cared for over 30 children and is still in contact with many of them today. In addition to her 4 biological children, she has adopted 7 of the children she once fostered. She is currently fostering three children, two in grade school (who she is adopting) and a teenager.

Ceola bought her home with the hopes that each child in her care, whether permanently or temporarily, would have their own space to feel comfortable and safe. Currently, Ceola's basement is not the warm and welcoming environment she longs for.  Her desire is to have a space that will serve as a place for the family to come together, reconnect, and enjoy one another. She would also love to see the current basement bedroom utilized for her teenage foster child.

"The Center for Youth and Family Solutions is ecstatic that one of our very dedicated and deserving foster homes was chosen by the Forgotten Initiative.  The planned basement renovation will not only create a more fun and stress free environment for Ceola and her current foster children, but also for any future foster children that join her family"   Allison Housewright, Licensing Worker at CYF Solutions
Meet April!
Foster Mom:  Family Core - Peoria IL

When April was asked if she would care for her grandchildren who had been removed from their parents, she didn't think twice. She welcomed them into her home with open arms and continues to be committed to them, showing them that they are loved, safe and special.

As a relative foster parent, April had not been licensed through the state prior to taking in the children but by law, she is now required to update her home with egress windows, doors, and some other renovations to accommodate state licensing standards.  Without these updates, April would no longer be allowed to continue fostering her grandchildren – meaning the children would have to be moved to a new home.  April had no idea how she was going to afford these updates before The Forgotten Initiative chose her for this project.

"FamilyCore applied for the TFI Project Sunshine: Foster Home Edition and are thrilled to have been selected. April cares for three young children, one of whom is a special needs child. These upcoming home improvements will assist our foster mother in getting licensed and help her provide permanency for three children. Thank you TFI Project Sunshine: Foster Home Edition for making a difference in the lives of these children."   Maria McCrea, Child Welfare Supervisor at FamilyCore.
